Under the auspices of the Honorable President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi .and under the supervision of the Director of the University Libraries, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Jassim Mohammed. The General Directorate of the Central Library organized a training course with the participation of representatives of the colleges and centers of the University of Mosul for the period from 5/17/2026 to 5/19/2026 entitled:

«Conservation and restoration of sources and manuscripts in university libraries»

The course underscored the importance of preserving the scientific and cultural heritage that is contained in the libraries of the University of Mosul, and the solid cognitive value represented by manuscripts, rare books, and scientific resources which requires care and conservation in according to the latest approved scientific methods.

The course covered various scientific and applied axes, focusing on the methods for preserving and restoring ancient manuscripts, documents, and rare books, as well as mechanisms for protecting them from environmental and temporal damage. In addition to introducing the modern methods used in conservation and restoration to ensure the sustainability of these knowledge treasures and make

them available to researchers, users and future generations.

The session also witnessed an interactive atmosphere from participants by discussing the most prominent challenges facing the preservation of library collections and ways to develop preventive conservation procedures inside the university libraries, which contributes to boosting the role of academic institutions in preserving scientific and cultural memory.

The course is in keeping with the Sustainable Development Goals, especially the fourth goal  «Good  Education» and the ninth goal «Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure», by supporting the educational and the research environment and preserving the knowledge and

heritage resources.
