Under the patronage of

Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision of

Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Nizar Al-Dabbagh, Director of the Mosul Studies Center, and in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning – Sustainable Development Unit, University of Mosul Presidency, and based on the letter from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the University of Mosul Presidency regarding National Afforestation Day and the organization of activities related to university afforestation, and within the activities of the Sustainable Development Committee at the Mosul Studies Center, the Center held a workshop entitled: (Afforestation at the University: Towards a Sustainable and Healthy Learning Environment).

Workshop Presentation: Assistant Professor Dr. Suhaib Hazem Al-Ghadhanfari, Head of the Department of Historical and Social Studies, Mosul Studies Center.

Workshop Management: Professor Dr. Maha Saeed Hameed, Head of the Quality Assurance Committee, Mosul Studies Center. Thursday, March 12, 2026
10:00 AM in the Center’s Art Hall.

This workshop is being held as part of the Center’s administration’s commitment, represented by the Center Director, to implementing the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the University of Mosul’s administration to encourage faculty members to conduct activities related to university afforestation, in line with achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, on the occasion of National Tree Planting Day.

The workshop is divided into several themes, the most important of which are:

Theme 1: Benefits of Afforestation
1. Environmentally:

– Reducing air pollution
– Improving air quality
– Lowering temperatures
2. Health-wise:

– Reducing stress
– Promoting mental well-being
– Providing spaces for exercise and relaxation
3. Educationally:
– Creating a comfortable learning environment
– Enhancing focus and productivity
– Teaching students the importance of sustainability

Second Theme: Successful Experiences in University Afforestation: Examples of Universities That Have Succeeded in Afforestation

1- University of Mosul through National Afforestation Campaigns

2- Planting 5,000 Trees in Rawanga Forest

3- The Effectiveness of University Afforestation at the Mosul Studies Center
This contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goals 3, 4, 11, 13, and 15.
