The Mosul Studies Center is holding a workshop on intellectual property rights.

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Nizar Al-Dabbagh, Director of the Mosul Studies Center, and in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning – Sustainable Development Unit, University of Mosul Presidency, and as part of the University of Mosul Sustainable Week activities for 2026, and coinciding with the celebration of World Intellectual Property Day 2026, the Center held a workshop entitled: (Protecting the Intellectual Property of Living Cultural Heritage). The workshop was presented by Dr. Ali Ahmed Al-Obaidi, Head of the Department of Literary Studies and Documentation – Mosul Studies Center, and managed by Dr. Hanaa Jassim Mohammed, Head of the Sustainable Development Committee – Mosul Studies Center. The workshop took place on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 10:00 AM. Its aim was to introduce living cultural heritage and its most important daily practices, as well as to enable participants to understand its legal tools and transform it into a sustainable economic resource for the local community. The workshop was divided into several sessions, the most important of which were:

– Defining the concept of intellectual property
– Defining the concept of living cultural heritage
– How to preserve and protect the intellectual property of heritage materials
– Explaining the role of universities and civil society organizations in preserving living cultural heritage, in a way that achieves the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goals 4, 8, 10, and 11
