In implementation of the directives of the President of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, to attend scientific and cultural activities at the university, the Director of the Mosul Studies Center, Asst. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nizar Al-Dabbagh, attended part of the activities of the scientific symposium organized by the University of Mosul on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the University of Mosul’s Scientific and Literary Forum. The symposium, titled “Climate Adaptation Initiatives in Nineveh,” was held in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the German Development Bank (KFW). The symposium was also attended by representatives from the UNDP and a number of experts and specialists. The symposium was inaugurated by Professor Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, in the presence of Professor Abdul Rahim Ibrahim Jassim, Scientific Assistant to the President of the University, and Assistant Professor Dr. Rafel Hassan Hamid, Administrative Assistant to the President of the University. Representatives from Nineveh Governorate were also present, including Engineer Sinan Subhi Ali, Director of the Nineveh Environment Department, representing the Iraqi Ministry of Environment, and several members of the University Council, specialized companies, and civil society organizations. The symposium included extensive discussions on climate adaptation initiatives and the role of academic institutions in addressing the challenges of climate change. It also included sessions and workshops that addressed innovation and planning. The symposium concluded with a set of recommendations aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change. It is worth noting that Professor Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, delivered a speech in which he emphasized the importance of completing the Badush Dam in achieving water security for Nineveh Governorate and its contribution to the completion of the Al-Jazeera Irrigation Project and supporting the agricultural sector.
