The Mosul Studies Center holds a cultural awareness lecture on participation in the parliamentary elections.
…..
As part of the activities of the Women’s Affairs Committee at the Center, and in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the University of Mosul Presidency, and in implementation of the Third National Plan for Women, Peace, and Security, under the “Cultural Awareness” pillar for the year 2025, the Mosul Studies Center held a cultural lecture entitled: “Parliamentary Elections: Your Voice, a Force for Change.”
The lecture was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Ahmed Al-Obaidi, Mosul Studies Center, and moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Hanan Abdul Khaliq Al-Sabaawi, Head of the Center’s Women’s Affairs Committee, on Sunday, August 24, 2024, at 10:00 AM, with the attendance of the Center’s female employees.
The lecture aimed to shed light on the participation of Iraqi women in the parliamentary elections, which represents a significant achievement on the path to building a comprehensive democratic state. For this participation to be more effective, awareness must be raised, institutional and societal support provided to women, and efforts must be made to remove the political and cultural obstacles they face. The voice of women voters in parliament is one of the cornerstones of the democratic process in Iraq, reflecting women’s awareness of their political rights and their ability to influence decision-making and determine the country’s future.
Despite the challenges they face, their participation in parliamentary elections is a significant achievement on the path to building a comprehensive democratic state. For this participation to be more effective, awareness must be raised, institutional and societal support provided to women, and efforts must be made to remove the political and cultural obstacles they face. The voice of women voters in parliament is not simply a number added to the ballot box; it is an expression of free and informed will, an active participation in shaping the future, empowering women to exercise their right to vote freely and consciously, and an investment in building a just and balanced democratic society, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 5 (gender equality) and Goal 16 (peace, justice, and strong institutions).
