An educational lecture was held entitled “Preserving Rare Books: The Mosul Studies Center Library as a Model.”

And under the supervision of

Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Nizar Al-Dabbagh, Director of the Mosul Studies Center

In cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning – Sustainable Development Unit, University of Mosul Presidency, and as part of the activities of the Library Committee at the Mosul Studies Center, the Center held an educational lecture entitled: (Preserving Rare Books: The Mosul Studies Center Library as a Model)

The workshop was presented by: Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Nizar Al-Dabbagh, Director of the Mosul Studies Center and Head of the Library Committee at the Center.

The workshop was managed by: Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Ahmed Al-Obaidi, Head of the Department of Literary Studies and Documentation, Mosul Studies Center.

At 10:00 AM on Monday, March 2, 2026, in the Center’s Art Hall.

The purpose of this lecture was to highlight the importance of preserving and protecting rare books from damage and deterioration, as they constitute a part of the cultural heritage of Mosul and its prestigious University of Mosul. The lecture also addressed preservation methods, such as providing appropriate lighting and temperature, as well as techniques for restoring book covers using locally available materials. Examples of rare books from the center were showcased, detailing their number and types. These included rare Mosul books, university guides, foreign sources in English and Latin, booklets, pamphlets, and publications. The rare books section of the Mosul Studies Center library served as a model for the lecture’s contents and contributed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goals 4, 11, and 16.
