The Mosul Studies Center held a workshop on the international protection of cultural property…


Under the patronage of
Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision of
Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Nizar Al-Dabbagh, Director of the Mosul Studies Center, and in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning – Sustainable Development Unit, the Human Rights Division, University of Mosul Presidency, and the College of Law, the workshop entitled: (International Protection of Cultural Property During Armed Conflicts) was presented by Human Rights Researcher, Ms. Fanar Tariq Yassin, College of Law, and moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Hanan Abdul-Khaliq, Mosul Studies Center.
The workshop took place on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 12:00 PM in the Center’s Art Hall.

The workshop highlighted the concept of cultural property as movable and immovable property of great importance to the heritage of peoples, such as architectural buildings, artifacts, books, manuscripts, and heritage items, and discussed the legal frameworks for its protection during conflicts. Armed forces require enhanced public and private protection, based on the 1954 Hague Convention and its Second Protocol of 1999, in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goals 4, 11, 16, and 17.
