About the Department:
The Department of Petroleum and Refining Engineering was established at the University of Mosul in August 2013, coinciding with the establishment of the College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering. It is considered one of the scientific departments of the college specializing in the field of petroleum and refining engineering. The department is primarily tasked with enhancing educational capabilities, particularly in the field of petroleum production technology and the petroleum industry, with the aim of preparing specialized engineering personnel in the field of oil and the utilization of oil resources. The department was established at the university in response to the urgent need for petroleum engineering expertise, given that the province is contain numerous petroleum fields and petroleum refining facilities that require a specialized engineering workforce for petroleum production and refining.

The department follows the annual study system, and the duration of study is four preparatory years (157 units), whereby the graduating student obtains a bachelor’s degree in petroleum and refining engineering. There are currently no postgraduate studies available in the department due to a shortage in the number of teaching staff specialized in petroleum engineering necessary to open postgraduate studies.
