Regional Studies Center Discusses the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Armed Conflicts

On April 19, 2026, Regional Studies Center organized a scientific lecture entitled “The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Armed Conflicts”, delivered by Prof. Dr. Imad K. Ibrahim, in the presence of a distinguished group of academics, researchers, and students interested in security and technological affairs. The lecture aimed to highlight the rapid transformations taking place in the field of conflict due to modern technologies, and to examine the impact of artificial intelligence on the development of warfare tools and conflict management.

During his presentation, the speaker addressed key applications of artificial intelligence in the military domain, including intelligence data analysis and automated decision-making, in addition to the ethical and legal challenges associated with the use of these technologies. He also emphasized the importance of establishing international regulatory frameworks to ensure the responsible use of technology in a manner that preserves international peace and security.

The lecture underscored the relevance of this topic to several Sustainable Development Goals, notably Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

The event concluded with a call to strengthen scientific research and international cooperation to better understand the dimensions of artificial intelligence and harness it in ways that serve humanity and mitigate the risks of armed conflicts.
