Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul held a specialized seminar on September 9, 2026, to discuss the most significant developments and rapidly evolving dynamics in the regional environment, as well as their implications for the security and stability of the region and Iraq’s national interests.

The seminar addressed a number of key regional issues, foremost among them developments in the Arabian Gulf, the course of the Iranian–American war and its political and security repercussions, in addition to developments in Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon.

The seminar featured discussions and analyses focusing on the nature of ongoing shifts in the regional balance of power and the interplay of political, security, and strategic dimensions of the current crises. It also examined their potential implications for the future of regional relations and the security of the region.

Participants underscored the importance of continuously monitoring regional developments and adopting scientific and analytical approaches to interpreting rapidly changing dynamics. Such approaches, they noted, contribute to anticipating potential scenarios and gaining a deeper understanding of their implications for Iraqi national security and Iraq’s position within its regional surroundings.

The seminar comes as part of the Regional Studies Center’s academic and research activities and reflects its commitment to keeping pace with regional developments and providing scholarly analyses that contribute to enhancing knowledge and developing a more accurate understanding of the events unfolding across the region.
