Regional Studies Center, through its Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning’s Sustainable Development Unit, and as part of the activities of the Center’s Women’s Affairs Committee, in coordination with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the Presidency of the University of Mosul, organized a scientific symposium entitled “Violence Against Women in Society: Structural Causes and Ways of Addressing It”, on Wednesday, 16 September 2026. The symposium aimed to shed light on the phenomenon of violence against women, identify its structural causes, and explore mechanisms for preventing and addressing it.

The symposium featured papers presented by Dr. Saddam Mohammed Hamid, Dr. Batool Halil Jubair, and Dr. Abdulrazzaq Khalaf Mohammed. The papers examined the social dimensions and underlying causes of the phenomenon, as well as approaches to addressing it and strengthening the protection of women, thereby contributing to raising community awareness, promoting equality, and reducing all forms of violence.

The symposium forms part of broader academic and community efforts to strengthen women’s role and protection. It is also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 5: Gender Equality; Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities; Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions; and Goal 4: Quality Education.
