Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and under the supervision of the Center’s Director, Assist. Prof. Dr. Tareq Mohammad Tayeb Al-Qassar, the Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul held its 67th scientific symposium, entitled “Women’s Rights in Light of Contemporary Challenges,” on Wednesday, 14 October 2026. The symposium was organized as part of efforts to raise awareness of women’s rights and promote the principles of equality and social justice, in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning, the Sustainable Development Unit, the Human Rights Department, and the Women’s Affairs Unit at the University Presidency.
The symposium aimed to shed light on women’s rights amid contemporary social and cultural changes, examine the challenges they face, promote a culture of equality and equal opportunities, and highlight the role of academic institutions in raising public awareness of and protecting women’s rights.
The symposium addressed several themes related to women’s human, social, and legal rights, emphasizing the importance of women’s empowerment and enhancing their participation in various aspects of life. These efforts contribute to building a society founded on fairness and mutual respect, while underscoring the need for coordinated institutional efforts to achieve comprehensive development.
The symposium’s objectives align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
The symposium concluded by emphasizing the importance of continuing to organize scientific and awareness-raising activities that promote women’s rights, support their active role in achieving sustainable development, and contribute to building a more just and equitable future for all.
