Scientific Workshop on Good Governance and Combating Violence Against Women

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Tourism Sciences, Prof. Dr. Manal Raafat Khalid, and in cooperation with the University of Mosul Presidency / Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit, the College of Tourism Sciences organized a workshop entitled “From Institutional Dysfunction to Good Governance: Institutional Reform as a Pillar for Combating Violence Against Women,” delivered by Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdullah Hussein on Sunday, 10 May 2026, in the presence of the Dean of the College, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, the Head of the Department of Tourism Studies, and a number of the college staff members.

The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of institutional reform and the role of good governance in building institutions based on justice, transparency, and accountability, contributing to the reduction of violence against women and the promotion of women’s rights and empowerment in society. It also addressed the mechanisms and procedures that help create a safe and supportive institutional environment founded on respect and equality, as well as raising awareness of the importance of strengthening a culture of social responsibility and rejecting all forms of violence and discrimination.

At the conclusion of the workshop, it was emphasized that the event aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4: “Quality Education,” Goal 5: “Gender Equality,” and Goal 16: “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions,” reflecting the University of Mosul’s commitment to supporting sustainable development issues and enhancing societal and institutional awareness.
