College of Science Registers a New Bacterial Strain in the Global Gene Bank

 

As part of its distinguished research achievements, the University of Mosul, through the College of Science, has successfully registered a new bacterial strain in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) for the first time globally. The research was conducted by Assistant Prof. Dr. Aws Ibrahim Suleiman and undergraduate students Nabaa Raed Hashem and Zahraa Abdulmunim Mohammed.

The newly registered strain belongs to the species Proteus mirabilis and is resistant to Nalidixic acid and Doxycycline, with the registration code (ANZ, RESIST. NAL. DOXY PQ796888.1). The strain was isolated from urinary tract infections in hospitals in Mosul.
