Iraqi-Iranian Science Week Started in Karbala with the participation of over 100 universities from both countries, alongside the signing of an executive program between the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and its Iranian counterpart.

 

The activities of the Iraqi-Iranian Science Week commenced in Karbala with the participation of over 100 universities from both countries.

In his opening speech, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, in the presence of members of the Parliamentary Education Committee, the Governor of Karbala, the Head of the Provincial Council, university presidents, general directors, and cultural advisors, emphasized that the second edition of the Iraqi-Iranian Science Week will advance toward practical implementation. This includes the exchange of scientists, professors, and researchers, the execution of research and technological projects, cultural exchange, scholarships, specialized workshops, fostering technical and professional cooperation, and establishing joint science and technology parks.

He explained that the Iraqi government and its developmental institutions, particularly the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, have achieved positive indicators in internationalizing education and promoting sustainable development. Iraq has gained prominent international rankings due to its focus on scientific research and the growth in global publications. He also pointed out that the path of quality assurance in Iraqi university institutions has paved the way for achieving international accreditation, ensuring that educational programs and awarded degrees maintain a high level of academic integrity.

For his part, Iranian Minister of Science, Research, and Technology, Dr. Hossein Simayee Sarraf, expressed his gratitude for the high level of organization of the joint Science Week, emphasizing the importance of scientific cooperation between the universities of both countries and enhancing their positions in global rankings.

The two sides signed an executive program between the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology, which included the following key points:

Enhancing mutual cooperation through a scholarship program for undergraduate and graduate studies, particularly under the “Study in Iraq” initiative.

Organizing training workshops for faculty members and students.

Encouraging joint scientific supervision.

Facilitating the exchange of university professors for conducting joint scientific research and delivering lectures in their respective fields.

Working on the establishment of a joint science park in Iraq under the management of the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The opening ceremony of the Iraqi-Iranian Science Week featured official speeches, scientific presentations, and the honoring of several prominent figures.
