The College of Arts Discusses a Master’s Thesis on Dialects in the Prophetic Hadith

The College of Arts at the University of Mosul discussed a master’s thesis titled “The Languages of the Arabs in Mirqat al-Mafatih Sharh Mishkat al-Masabih by Mulla Ali al-Qari (d. 1014 AH) – Collection, Documentation, and Study” on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
The discussion was attended by the University Assistant of the President for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Munir Salem Taha, and the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Muhammad Ali Afeen.
The study, presented by Aya Nofal Muhammad Al-Obaidi from the Department of Arabic Language, focused on the classical Arabic dialects in one of the commentaries on the Prophetic Hadith, shedding light on their vocabulary, structures, sentence formations, and semantic changes.
The research was based on the descriptive-analytical method, following the processes of collection, documentation, and induction.
The study aimed to gather the dialects mentioned by Mulla Ali al-Qari in his book, classify them as part of the spoken languages of Arab tribes, document them, and analyze them according to the four linguistic levels.
The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Firas Abdulaziz Abdulqader, with Assistant Professor Dr. Sheiban Adeeb and Assistant Professor Dr. Walaa Hashim Ahmed as members, and Professor Dr. Ahmed Saleh Yunus as both supervisor and committee member.
