The QS World University Rankings has released its 2025 edition, in which 1,730 institutions around the world competed.

The new edition is based on the evaluation of fifty-five disciplines distributed into five fields of study: (Arts and Humanities, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences and Medicine, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Management, and in light of indicators of academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations, the Hirsch Index and the International Research Network.

The ranking showed six Iraqi universities in advanced competitive positions according to the following academic programs:

▪ Petroleum Engineering:
* University of Baghdad (51-100)
* University of Basra/University of Technology (101-150)
* Northern Technical University / University of Mosul (151-175)

▪ Chemical Engineering:
– University of Baghdad (401-450)

▪ Electrical and Electronic Engineering:
– Baghdad University (451-500)

▪ Mechanical Engineering: University of Baghdad (351-400)
– University of Baghdad (351-400)

▪ Engineering and Technology:
– University of Baghdad (302)

▪ Computer Science and Information Systems:
– University of Baghdad (451-500)
– University of Basra/University of Kufa (751-800)

▪ Languages:
– University of Baghdad (251-300)

▪ Agriculture and Forestry:
– University of Baghdad (351-400)

▪ Medicine:
* University of Baghdad (551-600)

▪ Chemistry: University of Baghdad (601-700)
