Faculty member from the University of Mosul wins gold medal at the ITEX 2025 exhibition in Malaysia

Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Hazem Amin Al-Kawaz, who teaches at the Department of Computer Science at the College of Education for Pure Sciences – University of Mosul, won the gold medal at the 36th International Exhibition of Inventions, Innovations and Technology (ITEX 2025) held in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur from May 29 to 30, 2025.
This prestigious honor came for his research project with his research team from the University of Management and Science Malaysia (UMSM) titled
“Traffic Vision AI: Intelligent Traffic Monitoring System Powered by SD-YOLO Algorithm with Advanced Cybersecurity”
which aims to monitor and analyze traffic using AI techniques in real time, focusing on monitoring small and large objects, as well as enhancing cybersecurity using edge computing techniques, contributing to reducing congestion and improving mobility efficiency.
ITEX is a prestigious global platform that showcases the latest scientific and technological innovations. This year’s edition witnessed the participation of more than 900 research projects from 19 countries, making it an excellent opportunity for communication between universities and industrial organizations, and promoting sustainable development through innovation and technological development.
