College of Medicine discusses selected topics on medical microbiology and immunology in a scientific symposium

On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the College of Medicine at the University of Mosul held its annual scientific symposium entitled “Selected Topics in Medical Microbiology and Immunology”, held by the Microbiology Branch in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit.

and a number of faculty members, health departments and graduate students attended the symposium.
The symposium included selected new topics in medical microbiology and immunology.
A number of lectures were delivered that aimed to review the new techniques in the treatment of leukemia, the importance of probiotics as an adjunct therapy to antibiotics as well as reviewing their role in the treatment of some diseases, the importance of using the geneexpert device technology in the diagnosis of tuberculosis, the growing issue of antibiotic resistance in bacteria and how to work to reduce it.
It came up with a number of recommendations, the most important of which were
the need to expand the introduction of modern techniques of immunotherapy for patients with cancer, the use of modified T-cell therapies to treat cancerous blood diseases as a treatment for cancers resistant to other treatments, the use of pro-biotics as an adjunctive treatment to antibiotics and the treatment of some diseases, especially gastrointestinal diseases, the use of Geneexpert purification in the diagnosis of tuberculosis bacteria, especially antibiotic resistance, the adoption of multiple strategies to reduce the use of antibiotics due to the frequent presence of severe antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
