On Thursday, July 3, 2025, the College of Basic Education at the University of Mosul discussed a master thesis titled “The Poetry of Abdul Wahab al-Bayaty : An Ecoitical Approach”.

The thesis, submitted by student Wael Muhammad Jassim al-Hamawi in the Department of Arabic Language, dealt with the poetry of Abdul Wahab al-Bayati, exploring the features of environmental awareness.

Al-Bayati was known as a poet of estrangement and exile, and this left an impact on his poetry in the form of environmental awareness, which was distributed between complaining about the living environment and dreaming of an ideal environment.

This was manifested through the vocabulary of nature, women, alienation and human issues that the poet addressed.

The researcher found through it the manifestations of the environment from the ecological point of view to bring the message focused on the woman as an environmental savior for the poet and the human being as an environmental subject as well as poetry as an environmental compensator for Al-Bayati.

In addition, the study dealt with artistic techniques that carried the manifestations of the poet’s environmental awareness.

The discussion committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Faiza Muhammad Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, with the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Younis Saleh and Instructor Dr. Hamid Abdul Wahab Hassan, under the supervision and membership of Professor Dr. Jassim Muhammad Jassim Al-Ajja.
