Linear Accelerator for Cancer Treatment to Resume Service Soon at the University of Mosul

The University of Mosul announces the imminent return to service of its linear accelerator at the Medical and Therapeutic Research Centers, following confirmation from Al-Etqan Trading Agencies Co. Ltd. that the device’s rehabilitation, calibration, and adaptation have been successfully completed. This milestone aims to alleviate the suffering of cancer patients in Nineveh and spare them the hardship of traveling to other provinces for treatment. The device is scheduled to start receiving patients on Sunday, August 24, 2025, after ensuring its full readiness to operate with high efficiency and without technical obstacles.

Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, closely monitored the rehabilitation process. On Sunday, August 10, 2025, he met with Assistant Professor Dr. Alia Abdulaziz, Head of the Oncology Department and representative of the Research Centers’ Board of Directors, along with a delegation from Al-Etqan Trading Agencies Co. Ltd., the supervising and implementing entity for the project.

During the meeting, Dr. Al-Ibrahimi was briefed on the work stages, which included fulfilling the device’s technical requirements, bringing in specialized expertise, conducting training programs for staff in Baghdad, and providing on-site training at the University. Discussions also addressed the possibility of appointing a medical physicist to accompany the oncology team during the initial operation phase.

Celebrating this significant medical achievement, the University of Mosul reaffirms its unwavering commitment to being a hub of learning, education, and service — dedicated to the well-being of Mosul and Iraq as a whole.
