University of Mosul Receives The Austrian Ambassador to open new cultural and academic Partnerships

Reaffirming its pioneering role in international engagement, and under the guidance of its President, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, in strengthening academic and research cooperation, the University of Mosul received His Excellency the Austrian Ambassador to Iraq, Andreas Nasi, on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, to explore prospects for joint academic and cultural collaboration.
The two sides discussed the possibility of activating scientific and student exchange programs and opening new avenues of cooperation in scientific research and technology. Among these initiatives was the completion of the establishment of the Austrian Corner Unit at the University of Mosul to expand communication with European and international universities.
The University President presented to the Ambassador the university’s most notable achievements and its rich history, highlighting the challenges it has faced during the phases of destruction and reconstruction, followed by a field tour inside the university.
For his part, the Austrian Ambassador expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the invitation extended by the University President, praising past partnerships, including the May 2024 cooperation project on water quality. He emphasized his country’s aspiration to broaden future areas of cooperation, particularly with the University of Vienna in the field of agriculture.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Ambassador called for the University of Mosul to play an active role in the planned Center of Excellence under the supervision of the World Health Organization, in order to strengthen research and development efforts in the region.
