University of Mosul, as Part of International Efforts to Rehabilitate and Rebuild Key Projects, University President Welcomes UNESCO Education Officer

On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, received Mr. Tony Kar Hong Tam, UNESCO’s Education Officer, at his official office. The meeting was attended by the Scientific Assistant, Professor Dr. Abdul Rahim Ibrahim Jassim, and Dr. Mohamed Jassim Mohamed, Secretary-General of the University of Mosul Libraries.
The two sides discussed several academic and service-related issues, with a focus on UNESCO’s efforts to rehabilitate the University of Mosul’s Central Library and equip it with the latest digital technologies and devices for preservation, archiving, and borrowing, in line with global developments in this field.
Mr. Tony Kar Hong Tam reaffirmed UNESCO’s commitment to providing the necessary support and facilitation, striving to restore the Central Library to its prominent position as one of Iraq’s leading libraries, both locally and regionally. He praised the achievements made through ongoing cooperation with the university and emphasized UNESCO’s determination to continue this collaboration with innovative future projects, including a joint book exhibition.
During a field tour, the UNESCO delegation was introduced to the technical achievements of the Central Library, then visited the university’s Grand Theater and the newly established venue for university exhibitions, as well as the Ibn Al-Atheer Printing and Publishing House, where they were briefed on the latest equipment, work methods, and development opportunities. The visit concluded with a tour of the university’s lake to review upcoming projects to be implemented there.
