“The French Consul in Mosul Jean-Christophe Auge Visits the University of Mosul Ahead of the Linear Accelerator Opening

In the framework of French support for the University of Mosul and its research and medical centers, and with the imminent opening of the linear accelerator for cancer treatment in the city, Professor Dr. Abdul Rahim Ibrahim Jasim, Assistant President of the University of Mosul for Scientific Affairs, received today, Thursday, August 21, 2025, His Excellency the French Consul General Mr. Jean-Christophe Augier, in the presence of Assistant Professor Dr. Alia Abdulaziz Najm, Chair of the Joint Board and Head of the Oncology Department.
The discussions focused on ways to enhance scientific cooperation between the two sides, through key files including: fellowships and scholarships in technical specialties, training university staff by French expert specialists, anticipated collaboration with the French Institute of the Near East, introducing French language education in some university colleges including the College of Medicine, and training staff on operating the linear accelerator. The efforts of the French Development Agency in supporting the university and providing specialized services were also reviewed.
His Excellency the Consul praised the progress achieved in the university’s medical and research centers, particularly in rehabilitating advanced medical equipment that serves the city’s residents and spares them the costs of traveling to other provinces for treatment. He emphasized the importance of the linear accelerator, which is awaiting final approval from the National Authority for Biological, Nuclear, and Radiation Sources before its official opening.
Augier also affirmed France’s commitment to supporting advanced medical and clinical research in oncology, noting the special status of the University of Mosul among French academic and research institutions, whose research centers meet international scientific standards.
On the sidelines of the visit, the French Consul toured the French Cultural Institute at the University of Mosul’s second campus, familiarizing himself with its activities and its role in serving the Mosul community.
