A High-Level University Parliamentary Meeting Supports the Infrastructure Development of the University of Mosul

In the context of ongoing collaboration between academic institutions and legislative authorities, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, held an important meeting with the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mr. Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, on Sunday, August 24, 2025. This meeting aimed to strengthen ties of cooperation and support the university’s development journey. During the meeting, the achievements of the university and its future plans were discussed, along with the challenges it faces.
The President of the University of Mosul highlighted the university’s recent accomplishments, which included the development of academic programs, enhancement of scientific research, and improvement of services provided to students. He also mentioned the significant efforts made to rebuild and rehabilitate university facilities following the difficult circumstances faced by the province. The Speaker of the Parliament praised these achievements, emphasizing the university’s historical and scientific role in building society and developing human resources.
One of the key points of the meeting was the President’s request to the Speaker of the Parliament for support in funding the second phase of the housing project designated for female students in the university dormitories. Dr. Al-Ibrahimi stressed the urgent need for this project to accommodate the increasing number of female students coming from various districts in Nineveh and other provinces, and to provide a safe and comfortable living environment that would contribute to academic excellence. He explained that this project is part of the university’s ongoing efforts to improve its residential infrastructure, which recently underwent comprehensive sterilization and disinfection to ensure the health and safety of students.
In response to this request, the Speaker of the Parliament promised to approach the Council of Ministers to allocate the necessary funding for the second phase of the housing project. He also emphasized the importance of supporting academic institutions, particularly the University of Mosul, which is one of the leading educational institutions in Iraq. He reiterated his commitment to removing any legislative and financial obstacles that may hinder the university’s projects, noting that supporting higher education is an investment in the country’s future.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Speaker of the Parliament praised the tremendous efforts made by the university’s president, faculty members, and administrative staff to develop the institution and enhance the level of education and scientific research. He also acknowledged the university’s vital role in serving the local community through awareness programs and collaboration with health and service institutions.
