In line with its strong scientific orientation towards adopting and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to environmental protection and the transition to clean energy, Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, chaired a special meeting of the Solar Energy Project Committee today, Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
The meeting was attended by Professor Dr. Abdul Rahim Ibrahim Jassim, the University’s Scientific Assistant, and Assistant Professor Dr. Rafel Hasan Hamed, the Administrative Assistant, along with Dr. Riyadh Zaki Sabri, faculty member of the Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering at the College of Engineering and the University’s liaison with Tetra Tech, the consulting firm for the solar energy project, supported by the German Development Bank (KfW).
It is worth noting that this strategic project, which began its initial phases in 2023, aims to gradually transition the University of Mosul to reliance on clean energy sources, contributing to emission reduction and environmental protection.
The meeting discussed the technical and administrative foundations required for the project and addressed inquiries from the consulting firm regarding the potential expansion of the plant’s capacity and the utilization of several key sites within the university, including the dormitories on the right side, the second complex, and locations of the medical and therapeutic research centers, in preparation for the actual implementation phase to serve both the university and the city.
