Evening Events Illuminate Mosul University: A Play and Dialogues on Coexistence

Continuing the activities of the conference “Coexistence After Displacement: Strategies for Countering Extremism and Reintegration of Returnees”, which was held in collaboration between Mosul University and the Iraqi National Security Service, the university hosted an evening event on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the university’s grand theater. The event was attended by the university president, Dr. Wahid Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, along with a group of academics, students, and conference participants.
The evening began with a poignant theatrical performance titled “Ashur’s Return”, presented by the Department of Theater Arts at the College of Fine Arts. The play, performed with artistic elegance, addressed the theme of peaceful coexistence after conflict, portraying the suffering of individuals amid division and their quest for hope and unity.
The play received great admiration from the audience for its deep humanitarian messages, highlighting the power of art to address sensitive social issues and promote values of tolerance, diversity, and acceptance of others.
Following the play, an open discussion session took place, focusing on ways and mechanisms to enhance sustainable societal coexistence. This session included a distinguished group of researchers, academics, and social affairs enthusiasts. The goal was to create an interactive space for exchanging opinions and ideas among the participants and the audience, offering practical suggestions and questions to support efforts in social cohesion and rebuilding trust across various community groups.
These activities reaffirm that Mosul University, in cooperation with the Iraqi National Security Service, continues to fulfill its national and humanitarian mission in promoting the culture of coexistence and peace. The events also underscore its pioneering role as a center of scientific, intellectual, and cultural enlightenment in society.
