Mosul University’s College of Medicine Hosts Workshop on the Dangers of Drugs and How to Combat Them

As part of Mosul University’s community awareness activities and commitment to achieving sustainable development goals, the College of Medicine organized a workshop on Monday, November 3, 2025, titled “The Danger of Drugs.” The event was held in collaboration with the Media and Psychological Counseling Departments, the Media and Government Communications Department, the Sustainable Development Unit in the Studies and Planning Department, and the Ninawa Anti-Narcotics Directorate.
The workshop was inaugurated in the presence of Assistant Professor Dr. Humam Ghanem Ibrahim, Dean of the College, along with several college council members. The event included several informative and educational lectures addressing the various aspects of drug addiction, its health and societal impacts, and ways to mitigate the issue.
Assistant Professor Dr. Afraa Mohammed Al-Ameen delivered a lecture on the effects of drugs on human body functions, while Assistant Professor Dr. Walid Ghanem discussed the impact on the immune system. Colonel Ubay Hashim Aziz and Colonel Abdullah Ali Saleh from the Ninawa Anti-Narcotics Directorate addressed the causes, symptoms, and societal risks of drug use. Lecturer Yasser Jalal also discussed the public policies aimed at tackling the drug epidemic in Iraq.
This workshop represents a commitment to the sustainable development goals of good health, quality education, peace, justice, and strong institutions, further solidifying Mosul University’s role in promoting public health awareness among its students and the broader community.
