Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, received on Sunday, November 9, 2025, a delegation from the Nineveh Environment Directorate, headed by Mr. Omar Khidr Shallawi, Director of the Directorate, in the presence of Dr. Saba Khair Al-Din, Director of the Environmental Research Center at the University.

During the meeting, both sides discussed prospects for joint cooperation in the areas of environmental protection, sustainability, and the promotion of environmental awareness among the university’s students and staff, in addition to activating joint environmental initiatives and projects across the governorate.

The President of the University affirmed that the University of Mosul represents one of the key pillars supporting national efforts to improve the environmental reality, referring to the “Green Belt” initiative adopted by the university as part of its project toward a sustainable green campus, in line with its strategic plan for sustainable development. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation with relevant governmental institutions, especially the Nineveh Environment Directorate, to ensure tangible results on the ground.

For their part, the delegation expressed appreciation for the university’s leading efforts in environmental protection and awareness, particularly through tree-planting campaigns and educational workshops. They also confirmed their keenness to expand future cooperation through joint programs, including workshops, field campaigns, and research projects that contribute to improving the environment in Nineveh Governorate and building a more aware and sustainable society.
