The College of Political Science Highlights the Impact of Climate Change on International Relations

On Thursday, December 11, 2025, the College of Political Science at Mosul University held a scientific seminar titled “The Impact of Climate Change on International Relations,” organized by the Department of International Relations in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit. The seminar was attended by a number of faculty members, staff, and students. This event was part of the college’s interest in studying the rapidly changing global transformations and their role in reshaping the political, economic, and security landscape at both regional and international levels.
The seminar focused on several key topics, including the future of water and food security in Iraq in light of climate change, the impact of climate shifts on the country’s internal and external environment, and the international competition for renewable energy in the context of the global shift towards a low-carbon economy. The importance of strengthening climate diplomacy was also discussed as a framework for addressing transboundary environmental challenges.
The seminar concluded by emphasizing that climate change has become a significant geopolitical factor influencing global security, resources, migration, and foreign policies, with a call for enhanced international cooperation to develop effective strategies for adaptation and mitigating shared risks.
