University of Mosul Reviews Key Academic, Research, and Administrative Files at the Beginning of the New Academic Year

 

The University Council of the University of Mosul held its first meeting for the academic year 2026–2027 on Sunday, 13 September 2026, chaired by Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, with the attendance of all council members.

The meeting’s agenda primarily focused on reviewing the standard criteria for applicants seeking study leave for postgraduate programs, as well as discussing the key instructions and regulations related to this matter. This aims to organize application procedures and ensure fairness and equal opportunities among applicants.

On the humanitarian side, the Council discussed the issue of reducing tuition fees for a number of undergraduate students, taking into consideration students’ varying circumstances and in accordance with the applicable regulations and instructions.

The Council also reviewed the academic promotion files of several faculty members and addressed the importance of reconstituting academic promotion committees in a number of colleges, in order to reinforce academic standards and support scientific advancement.

The meeting further covered the extension of study periods for a number of postgraduate students, in addition to updating several academic curricula to keep pace with the continuous acceleration of developments across various fields of knowledge and specialization.

The Council also discussed extending the service periods of a number of faculty members in accordance with the applicable regulations and instructions.

In the field of scientific publishing, the Council reviewed mechanisms for enhancing the publication of research papers in international databases, contributing to the improvement of the university’s research indicators and strengthening its academic presence both locally and internationally.

The Council also discussed a number of other items on its agenda related to the progress of the educational, research, and administrative processes, and took the necessary decisions regarding them in a manner that contributes to improving performance and advancing the university’s standing as it begins the new academic year.
