In a scientific achievement reflecting the distinguished research standing of the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research at the University of Mosul, the Department of Research and Development at the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has selected Professor Dr. Mohammed Subhi Mustafa Al-Taweel, Director of the Center, as a member of the Ministerial Biodiversity Team, in accordance with an official ministerial order issued by the Department.

  The Ministerial Biodiversity Team is responsible for overseeing the collection and analysis of data related to the indicators of Iraq’s National Biodiversity Targets and contributing to the implementation of the National Biodiversity Strategy, thereby strengthening the country’s efforts to conserve biodiversity and promote sustainable development.

  Professor Dr. Mohammed Subhi Mustafa Al-Taweel participated in the first meeting of the Ministerial Team, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with the attendance of representatives from Iraqi universities and research centers. The meeting focused on discussing the implementation mechanisms of the national biodiversity program and assigning responsibilities among team members.

  This selected highlights the Center’s leading scientific role in contributing to national initiatives and utilizing its research expertise to support biodiversity conservation and the sustainable management of natural resources, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

• SDG 15: Life on Land – by supporting biodiversity conservation and protecting terrestrial ecosystems.

• SDG 13: Climate Action – through contributing to climate change adaptation and the sustainable management of natural resources.

• SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals – by strengthening collaboration between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, universities, and research institutions in implementing national programs.
