Sustainable Human Development… A Scientific Vision for a More Prosperous Future … Workshop at the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research – University of Mosul

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Mohammed Sobhi Mustafa Al-Taweel, Director of the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research , the Center— in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit at the University Presidency—organized a workshop entitled “Sustainable Human Development” on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
The lectures were delivered by Lecturer Abbas Ali Ahmed and Assistant Lecturer Nawaf Jassim Mohammed. The presentations addressed the concept of sustainable human development as an integrated approach that balances economic, social, and environmental dimensions. The speakers emphasized that it is not merely a theoretical framework, but an essential necessity to ensure a secure and prosperous future for both present and future generations.
The workshop highlighted that achieving sustainable human development requires the collective efforts of governments, institutions, and individuals, working with a shared sense of responsibility to achieve comprehensive development that preserves human dignity, provides access to education, employment, and healthcare, and safeguards natural resources to ensure their sustainability.
The workshop themes were aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals, including:

This workshop reflects the Center’s commitment to promoting a culture of sustainable development and raising community awareness of its importance, thereby supporting the university’s role in serving society and building a conscious generation capable of contributing to comprehensive and sustainable development.
