A specialized team from the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research at University of Mosul conducted laboratory examinations and analyses on Sunday, March 8, 2026, on soil samples collected from agricultural lands belonging to several farmers in Nineveh Governorate who had applied biochar as an organic soil amendment in their fields.

  This activity is part of the Center’s ongoing research efforts to monitor the impact of biochar application in agricultural soils. The analyses aim to evaluate its effects on improving soil fertility and its physical and chemical properties, as well as enhancing nutrient-use efficiency. These efforts contribute to promoting sustainable agricultural practices and providing accurate scientific recommendations to farmers to help improve agricultural productivity while reducing negative environmental impacts.

This research activity is also aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals, particularly:

• Goal 2 – Zero Hunger: by improving crop productivity and strengthening food security.

• Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production: through the use of biochar as an environmentally friendly agricultural input that helps reduce waste and conserve natural resources.

• Goal 13 – Climate Action: by using biochar as a tool to reduce carbon emissions and enhance carbon management in soils.

• Goal 15 – Life on Land: by improving soil health, reducing land degradation, and combating desertification.

  This initiative reflects the commitment of the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research to applying scientific research in service of the agricultural sector and strengthening cooperation with farmers to disseminate modern and environmentally friendly agricultural technologies, thereby contributing to sustainable agricultural development and enhanced food security.
