The Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research (C.AFCAR) Represents the University of Mosul at the 17th Agricultural Week Activities conducted at Baghdad International Fair.

AFCAR center representing the University of Mosul, participated in the 17th Agricultural Week activities, which were held at the Baghdad International Fairgrounds from August 22 to 27, 2026. The event witnessed extensive participation, with 209 local and international companies from 14 countries taking part. It was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and was inaugurated in the presence of the Iraqi Prime Minister “Ali Faleh al-Zaydi”.

The Center’s participation centered on showcasing the Biochar Production from Olive Mill Waste project, supervised by Professor Dr. Salem Hamadi Antar (Head of the Field Crops Department) at AFCAR Center. This project aligns with the Center’s and the University’s strategic direction to harness scientific research in developing sustainable solutions that serve the agricultural sector and support farmers.

The project is being implemented in collaboration between the University of Mosul, the Ministry of Agriculture, the World Food Programme (WFP), and the Mosul Municipality. It aims to utilize olive mill waste and convert it into a product of significant agricultural value, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability and the optimal use of agricultural products.

The Center’s participation in this agricultural event represents a vital opportunity to showcase the University of Mosul’s research and applied outputs, strengthen cooperation among academic institutions, government bodies, and international organizations, and facilitate the transfer of agricultural innovations from laboratories and research centers into practical application—ultimately serving agricultural and environmental development in Iraq.

This participation is fully aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

  • Goal 2 (Zero Hunger),

  • Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy),

  • Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure),

  • Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production),

  • Goal 13 (Climate Action),

  • Goal 15 (Life on Land), and

  • Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
