Commencement of the Winter Research Plan for Peas Crop.

The Field Crops Department at the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research (C.AFCAR) has commenced its winter research activities for the 2026–2027 agricultural season by planting new varieties of pea genotypes as part of a research plan involving different planting dates. The plan aims to investigate the genotypes’ responses to environmental conditions and evaluate their field performance.

On Wednesday, 14 October 2026, the first planting date of the research plan was implemented in accordance with approved agricultural practices, paving the way for monitoring the crop’s growth stages and recording field, physiological, and yield-related indicators to assess the performance of the introduced genotypes.

This experiment forms part of the Center’s ongoing efforts to support agricultural scientific research and generate the scientific data needed to determine the suitability of different pea genotypes to local environmental conditions. It also aims to investigate the effects of varying planting dates on pea crop growth and productivity.

The findings of this research plan are expected to enhance scientific knowledge of pea cultivation and support the development of appropriate agricultural practices, thereby contributing to improved agricultural production and more efficient use of available resources.

This research activity is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
