Teaching Staff:
The teaching staff at the Department of History is composed of 56 teachers (i.e., 38 male teachers and 18 female teachers) as follows:
1- Thirteen professors.
2- Twenty-six assistant professors.
3- Fifteen lecturers.
4- Two assistant lecturers.
Some functions of the teaching staff:
1- Teaching.
2- Some of them are members of committees, such as the promotion committee at the college and at the university presidency, and the committee on the Teaching Qualification Test at the university presidency. Some of them have memberships in refereed journals. Regarding societies, some teachers are members of the Arab Historians Union, the Academics Union, and the Teachers Union.
Scientific Committee
The Scientific Committee at the Department of History is performing essential functions such as devising annual plans to accept students, notably postgraduate students, and preparing examination papers for the competitive exams. The committee also discusses some applications that come to the office of the head of the department regarding some scientific affairs, registers the teachers’ research papers, and makes plans to hold scientific conferences, symposia, and workshops. Concerning scientific promotions, the committee takes up signing the promotion applications. The scientific committee comprises nine teachers of the rank of professor and one teacher of the rank of an assistant professor during the academic year 2022-23:
Committee of the Postgraduate Studies:
After opening postgraduate studies at the Department of History during the academic year 1977–1978, a committee of postgraduate studies was established. Its work was restricted to supervising competitive exams to make sure things went well, conducting personal interviews for candidates to make certain that they were fully qualified for being accepted at postgraduate studies, marking exam papers, announcing students’ marks, and reading the monthly reports of the students’ supervisors.
