Department Basics
Based on the final objectives of the Committee for the Development of Knowledge Resources for Media Curricula, the development process is based on the foundations of developing the following capabilities and skills:
1- The ability to think, criticize, investigate, analyze and investigative methods in the media.
2- The ability to write and to have the power of descriptive and analytical expressing.
3- The ability to use modern communication technology and its media and informational uses,
in addition to operating and using digital cameras in general and on television in particular, and obtaining montage equipment knowledge of modern graphics and its uses, and radio operation and management, both traditionally and electronically.
4- Knowledge of current affairs and issues, and general knowledge of history and geography.
5. Familiarity with media legislation and codes of honor.
6- Raising media work fields with specific skills that bring about a change in the traditional field of work.

A graduate of the Media Department has a number of job opportunities available in many places, including:
1- Reporter, news representative, news editor and photographer in local, Arab, regional and international news agencies.
2- Photographer, news editor, director, programmer, presenter of news and various programs on satellite channels.
3- Reporter, news editor, writer of press articles and reports, and news representative in local, Arab and international newspapers.
4- Designer of press, television and electronic advertisements in advertising institutions.
5- Media director, public relations director, and marketing director in various governmental and private companies and institutions.
6- Media spokesperson or official spokesperson in government institutions.
7- Managing social networking sites and electronic media sites in various institutions.
8- Teacher in the media department and in universities and media institutes.
Media department Strategic plan:
The Department of Media seeks to link education as strategies to the scientific life needed by the labor market, and to raise the level of students’ competence and improve their performance in journalistic editing, photojournalism, computers, advertising, and journalistic and media technologies in order to reach a distinguished high degree in work, and among the future plans that the department seeks to achieve are :
1- Support holders of master’s degree in the Department of Mass Communication in order to obtain doctoral degrees in media specializations.
2- Opening evening studies to receive the largest possible number of students wishing to study who were not lucky enough to study in morning classes.
3- Providing the conditions for opening postgraduate studies in the media department in the coming years (press, radio and television).
4- Developing academic curricula and describing them scientifically.
5- Providing illustrations for advanced educational techniques.
6- Opening channels of joint scientific cooperation with Iraqi, Arab and foreign media colleges and departments.
7- Creating an electronic newspaper after the students of the department are trained to issue it and work for it.
