On Monday, 6 October, 2025, Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, the President of Mosul University, received the His Excellency the Italian Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Niccolo Fontana, in the presence of Professor Dr. Abdul Rahim Ibrahim Jasim, the Scientific Assistant of the President.

The Rector welcomed his guest, appreciating this visit which reflects the deep cultural and academic relations between Iraq and Italy. He emphasized on expanding the cooperation with the Italian universities and institutions in the fields of archaeology, architectural engineering, reconstruction, cultural heritage, and higher education.

Ambassador Fontana expressed his delight at visiting the University of Mosul and learning about its academic and urban development journey, praising the university’s scientific and civilizational revival after years of challenges and reconstruction.

The tour included a tour in Central Library, where the President of the University commended the Italian efforts in its reconstruction as a scientific and cultural source for students and researchers, confirming that this support reflects the depth of partnership between the two friendly nations.

At the end of the visit, the Italian Ambassador presented a version of “Treasures of Iraq ” to the President of the University, expressing his appreciation for Mosul University and its leading role in preserving the cultural and urban heritage of Iraq.
