Research Achievement by the College of Engineering at the University of Mosul Enhances Precision in Robotic Surgery and is Published in a Global Journal

The University of Mosul continues to strengthen its global scientific standing through high-impact applied research. In this context, Dr. Omar Waleed Najm Marouf, a lecturer in the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at the College of Engineering, has published a distinguished research paper in collaboration with a research team from the Izmir Institute of Technology, under the research project No. (123M353).

The study, titled:
“Optimal Mechanical Design of an Endoscope Holder for Robot-Assisted Minimally Invasive Surgery System”,
was published in the prestigious Journal of Mechanical Design, issued by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

The journal is ranked within:Q1 in Scopus and Q2 in Clarivate with notable metrics including a CiteScore of 8.2 and an Impact Factor of 3 (2025).

The research presents an optimized mechanical design for an endoscope holder integrated with a robotic arm, enhancing precision in remote control at the Remote Center of Motion (RCM). The design significantly reduces positioning errors and improves system stability, thereby contributing to higher accuracy and safety in minimally invasive surgical procedures.
