The UNESCO Chair at the University of Mosul organized an awareness training workshop entitled “Rejecting Violence and Achieving Community Peace” on Sunday, August 30, 2026, as part of its efforts to promote a culture of peace and spread the values of tolerance, dialogue, and acceptance of others, in pursuit of a cohesive society united by bonds of compassion and dedicated to serving the nation.

The workshop included lectures and discussions that addressed the concepts of violence and extremism, their impacts on society, mechanisms for reducing them, and ways to strengthen social peace. It also highlighted the role of academic institutions, including the University of Mosul, in promoting a culture of dialogue and peaceful coexistence, as well as the importance of political and social awareness in consolidating stability and enhancing a culture of coexistence.

The workshop further addressed the intellectual and social dimensions associated with the culture of peace, with the aim of confronting ideas and behaviours that may lead to violence and extremism.
