College of Dentistry Hosts an Awareness Campaign on Immunodeficiency and Viral Hepatitis

Under the patronage and joint coordination of the University of Mosul / College of Dentistry and the Nineveh Health Directorate, and within the executive plan of the Immunodeficiency Control Division at the Department of Public Health, the College hosted an educational awareness campaign that lasted for three consecutive days (15–16–17 February 2026), targeting second- and third-year students.
The campaign included the delivery of specialized scientific lectures on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and viral hepatitis. These lectures addressed disease definitions, clinical signs and symptoms, modes of transmission, preventive measures, and available treatment options, in addition to raising awareness of the importance of available vaccinations. Educational posters were also distributed to students, and open discussion sessions were held to answer all questions and inquiries.
On the first day (15 February 2026), the lectures were delivered by: Senior Chief Dental Surgeon, Dr. Zafar Ibrahim Salim, Head of the Immunodeficiency Unit at the Left Primary Health Care Sector / Nineveh Health Directorate.
On the second day (16 February 2026), the lectures were delivered by: Specialist Physician Dr. Zina Abdul Qader Tabo, Head of the Immunodeficiency Control Division and Head of the Viral Hepatitis Unit and Pharmacist Dr. Omar Abdul Majeed Kazem, Head of the Immunodeficiency Program Unit.
The activities of the campaign continued on its third day (17 February 2026) with additional awareness lectures that emphasized the importance of promoting health culture among students at medical colleges and enhancing their scientific and professional awareness in dealing with communicable diseases and methods of limiting their spread.
This campaign comes within the framework of institutional cooperation between the University and the health sector, contributing to the consolidation of concepts of prevention and health responsibility among college students, and supporting the College’s academic and community-oriented mission.
