Master’s Thesis Defense: Evaluation of Shear Bond Strength of Different Composite Resin Materials to Coronal Dentin after Storage in Artificial Saliva (An In Vitro Comparative Study)

On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, the Department of Conservative Dentistry, College of Dentistry, University of Mosul, held the defense of the master’s thesis entitled: “Shear Bond Strength of Different Composite Resin Materials to Coronal Dentin after Storage in Artificial Saliva (An In Vitro Comparative Study).”

The thesis, submitted by the student Rana Fahad Ahmed, investigated the shear bond strength of various types of bulk-fill composite restorative materials after storage in artificial saliva. The study also included microstructural analysis using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) to evaluate the interface between the restorative material and dentin.

The results demonstrated that the type, composition, and bioactive properties of the restorative materials significantly influence shear bond strength after storage in artificial saliva. Furthermore, bioactive resin-based restorative materials showed positive effects, including enhanced bond strength, improved marginal integrity, and increased long-term durability of the restorations.

The examination committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Raghd Adnan Rasheed, with membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Shaimaa Shakir Hassan and Assistant Professor Fanar Turki Abdulhameed, and supervised by Assistant Professor Nadia Mudafar Ahmed, who also served as a committee member.

The thesis was approved after the required revisions were made.
