Master’s Thesis Defense at the College of Dentistry on Enhancing Healing Through Denture Base Modification

The Department of Prosthetic Dental Technologies at the College of Dentistry, University of Mosul, witnessed on Thursday, May 14, 2026, the defense of the master’s thesis entitled: “Modification of 3D Printed Denture Base Material by Hyaluronic Acid to Improve Healing”
The thesis, submitted by the student Mustafa Mahmoud Jassim, aimed to evaluate and examine three-dimensionally printed denture base material following the incorporation of Hyaluronic Acid (HA), and to determine the effect of these additions on its physical and biological properties using an in vitro model.
The findings demonstrated that incorporating hyaluronic acid at varying concentrations into the three-dimensionally printed denture base material resulted in a synergistic bioactive release that enhances the oral microenvironment. This contributes to improved tissue hydration and stabilization of growth factors, thereby accelerating tissue healing and stimulating neovascularization, in addition to reducing pain and the likelihood of infection in patients, particularly during the early stages of denture use.
The examination committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Nada Zuhair Mohammed, with the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Luma Mudhafar Anwar and Assistant Professor Dr. Labib Hassoun Al-Saadoun. The thesis was supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Ammar Khalid Jamal Al-Din and Professor Dr. Ghada Abdulrahman Taqa.
The thesis was accepted after the required revisions had been made.
