Female Faculty Members from the College of Dentistry at the University of Mosul Register Rare Bacterial Isolates in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) Database

A research team from the College of Dentistry at the University of Mosul, consisting of Professor Dr. Ghada Taqa, Professor Dr. Eman Abdul Aziz, and Lecturer Dr. Saba Muayad Suleman from the Department of Basic Sciences of Dentistry, successfully registered three bacterial isolates in the GenBank database of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) as part of their scientific research activities.
The registered isolates included:
- Staphylococcus warneri
- Morococcus cerebrosus
- Corynebacterium argentoratense
The strains were isolated from patients suffering from halitosis and from dental plaque samples. They were subsequently identified through 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis and officially deposited in the GenBank database.
The isolation of Corynebacterium argentoratense represents a distinguished scientific achievement, as it is considered a rare bacterial species with limited isolation and research records. Consequently, its molecular registration and documentation constitute a significant scientific contribution that enriches existing knowledge, particularly in light of the scarcity of studies addressing this bacterium at both the national and international levels.
This accomplishment reflects the ongoing efforts of the College of Dentistry at the University of Mosul to support high-quality scientific research and promote scientific publication and documentation. It also contributes to making molecular data on bacterial isolates accessible to researchers worldwide, while highlighting the College’s academic standing and its research contributions to the medical and life sciences fields.
