Workshop at College of Engineering on Promoting a Culture of Citizenship, Peaceful Coexistence, and Moderation within a Unified Society

Under the Patronage of the President of University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Waheed Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, and Supervision of Dean of College of Engineering, Assist. Prof. Dr. Omar Mohammed Hamdoon, Division of Media and Government Communication in cooperation with Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Division at the College of Engineering, the University Security Center, and the Institutes of Nineveh—organized a workshop titled: “Promoting a Culture of Citizenship, Peaceful Coexistence, and Moderation within a Unified Society,” on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, in the Discussion Hall of Environmental Engineering Department.
The workshop aimed to instill the values of good citizenship and promote the principles of peaceful coexistence and moderation among members of society through awareness and interactive programs. These efforts contribute to building a shared understanding of the importance of respecting cultural and intellectual diversity and rejecting extremism and violence.
Additionally, the workshop sought to engage various social groups in initiatives that reinforce national belonging and a sense of civic responsibility, supporting efforts to achieve security, stability, and sustainable development.
The workshop concluded with a set of key recommendations, including:
Promoting active citizenship values;
Upholding the rights and responsibilities of citizenship;
Encouraging positive participation in community development;
Respecting the law and constitution as foundations of coexistence;
Fostering volunteer work and community service to strengthen national identity;
Embedding a culture of peaceful coexistence and accepting cultural, religious, and ethnic diversity as a source of national richness, not division;
Spreading the values of tolerance and forgiveness;
Adopting peaceful means for conflict resolution;
Rejecting intellectual and behavioral extremism.
The workshop was attended by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ayman Talib Hameed, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs; Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Ismail Ibrahim Al-Hayali, Head of the Environmental Engineering Department; and Asst. Prof. Dr. Alaa Al-Din Ali Hussein, Director of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Department at the University Presidency, in addition to a number of faculty members, staff, and students from the College of Engineering.
