The aim of holding the course was to introduce the Mosul researcher, writer, and historian, Professor Bassam Al-Jalabi, and to explain his methodology in dealing with Mosul biographies and historical accounts during the Abbasid era. The first day of the course included an introduction to Bassam al-Jalabi, providing an overview of his upbringing, cultural background, diverse interests in science and knowledge, and his scholarly activities through his participation in seminars and festivals. It also covered his contributions to authoring and publishing Mosul-related works, as well as his studies, research, and articles.

The second day focused on his methodology for dealing with Mosul-related biographies. This involved selecting specific examples from the Abbasid era, examining the structure and composition of the biographies, and presenting his approach to handling and arranging texts according to their historical context in academic studies. The course also addressed his methods for organizing, annotating, commenting on, and critiquing references, and discussed the nature of the biographies, ranging from short to long, and the style of translation according to the authors’ interests, particularly in Hadith, Quranic readings, jurisprudence, history, literature, and Arabic language. This approach aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goals 4, 11, and 16.
