Green Accounting: A Pathway to Lasting Peace

The Peacebuilding and Peaceful Coexistence Center at the University of Mosul has successfully concluded a three-day training program titled “Green Accounting Skills for Achieving Sustainable Peace.” This initiative aligns with the University’s strategic commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and enhancing institutional performance in line with global best practices.

Delivered by Assistant Professor Duaa Idris Younis, the course brought together faculty members and administrative staff from various university colleges. Participants explored the principles of green accounting, examined the challenges facing its application, and discussed its integration with the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development.

Special emphasis was placed on how green accounting can contribute to strengthening social peace in communities impacted by climate change, where environmental degradation has intensified economic instability and social tensions. By linking environmental responsibility to peacebuilding, the program underscored the Center’s pivotal role in promoting both ecological sustainability and societal resilience.
