Entrepreneurial Engineering Innovation

On the occasion of the National Entrepreneurship Day, the College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering organized a workshop entitled “Engineering Innovation in Entrepreneurship: Solutions to Real-World Problems”, attended by a distinguished group of faculty members and students.

This event was aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, which focuses on promoting innovation, supporting sustainable industrialization, and developing resilient infrastructure capable of driving economic growth.

The workshop began with an introduction to the Entrepreneurship Unit and its vital role within the college as a hub for creative ideas. The services it provides to support emerging student projects were highlighted, along with the importance of transforming engineering challenges into viable and practical investment opportunities.

Students were also encouraged to utilize their engineering knowledge to analyze technical problems facing oil fields and mining operations, and to develop practical solutions that enhance production efficiency and reduce operational costs. The lecture further emphasized the pivotal role of artificial intelligence and modern technologies in improving operational performance and ensuring compliance with environmental standards, thereby achieving a balance between economic development and resource sustainability.

The workshop concluded by reinforcing the concept of the “innovative engineer”, guiding students to adopt an entrepreneurial mindset rather than waiting for traditional employment opportunities. This approach aims to contribute to the national economy through sustainable entrepreneurial projects that support comprehensive development.

The workshop was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Sura Mohammed Ali, Head of the Entrepreneurship Unit at the college.
