Completion of Summer Training for Petroleum Engineering Students at Baiji Refinery

Based on the principle of cooperation between the Department of Petroleum and Refining Engineering at the College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering – University of Mosul, and the Engineers Syndicate – Petroleum Division, Nineveh Branch, and in coordination with the Engineering Administration of the Baiji Refinery, the summer training program for third-year students at Baiji Refinery in Salah Al-Din Governorate was successfully completed for the period from July 1, 2025, to August 1, 2025.

The program aimed to enhance students’ field skills and link theoretical knowledge with practical application in a real work environment, providing them with a deeper understanding of refining operations and developing their technical abilities.

The training took place in the Production Department – Salah Al-Din 1, which includes three main units: the Atmospheric Distillation Unit supervised by Chemical Engineer Ahmed Hisham – Head of the Distillation Unit Division; the Hydrotreating Unit supervised by Chemical Engineer Ahmed Aboud – Head of the Hydrotreating Unit Division; and the Catalytic Reforming Unit supervised by Engineer Mithaq Saleh – Head of the Gasoline Reforming Unit Division, with the participation of a group of specialized technicians.

The program included theoretical lectures on each production unit within the refinery, followed by field tours and hands-on training in the central control room to understand monitoring and control methods. It also featured specialized explanations of related chemical and physical principles, with direct interaction to answer students’ questions.

The students expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the engineering and technical staff at Baiji Refinery, as well as to the Department of Petroleum and Refining Engineering and the Engineers Syndicate – Petroleum Division, Nineveh Branch, for their sincere efforts in providing a training experience rich in knowledge and practical expertise.
